 Great resort to relax

We have just arrived from this resort and we did enjoyed our stay there very much. It is beautiful, a botanical garden like resort. Cottages are cute, inside and outside, balconies with daybeds are very nice. You can hear birds, crickets and frogs singing all the time. Food is good, but nothing extra special. The choice is limited, it is a small resort. We missed local fruit, which was served only one night (on Jamaican night dinner). They have only 1 a-la-cart, we weren't lucky with our food, the steak was very tough (others liked it). You always find something to please you at the buffet. Staff was very friendly and attentive. The coffee bar was a pleasant surprise - excellent coffee served by sweet girl Tsahai (sorry if i misspelled it. Walk to the beach crossing the road is not a problem. It is a very short walk - max. 5 min. and the beach is beautiful with plenty of shade and chairs (those should be replaced, they are old and not very comfy). Overall it is a great place to relax, maybe little bit overpriced. There is not much to do at night, so if you like party, don't go there.

Return Visit - Read this review

This boutique hotel is simply wonderful: but know what you want and what this resort is not. Do not come here to party; do not bring children; do not think that crossing the road to the beach is horrible. (yes it's across the road but no further than you'd walk to the beach at a larger resort).
Come to relax in a quiet, different atmosphere. The service is great. The food is really good, but remember this is 85 rooms so if selection is a little small, that's why. It's all great food (new chef this year) and the variety is really quite good.
It lacks in entertainment only if you need the distraction - there's music every night and it's over by 10 or 10:30. As I said, don't come to party. There's no disco (as I heard someone comment), and no there isn't happily (read the info). You won't get blasted with Reggae or bull horns. The pool is not small, it is the right size. The beach is perfect - and you won't need to build a fort of chairs and towels (like someone did)- it just isn't necessary. Internet - don't go here for it - there's wireless in the lobby and an I-net room with a couple terminals. For me that's perfect as I come here to log off for a while :).
Tidbits; you can get a fridge if you ask (why you would I don't know) there's ice and daily ice service and turn-down. There is a safe in the room.

This is a very relaxing, quality resort with great staff (you know who you are already). We are repeat visitors and as long as the Palms stays true to this vision, we will keep coming back.

 Unique and beautiful resort

The lush jungle like setting and treetop style rooms make for a very peaceful and serene atmosphere at this resort. I loved spending time on the daybed watching the sun rise over the mountains, or the rain patter on the foliage surrounding the deck.

Because of the small size, most of the staff knew me by name on my first day, which was very comforting for a solo female traveler. They really went out of their way during my entire stay to make sure that everything was going well and that I was happy.

The a la carte restaurant does have superior food and excellent service. The buffet is good, if not hugely varied. The beach grill is also pretty good.

The beach was great, no problem getting a chair, and sun or shade, whichever you preferred. The pool was clean although a little bit cold. At either the pool or the beach, the guests were really friendly and interesting, and I was invited to join them in excursions or just to sit with them and chat.

I had exactly the vacation experience I wanted, just experiencing the gorgeous grounds and unhurried pace. I would highly recommend this resort to someone looking for this type of vacation.

 A Hidden Gem

If Jamaica is your choice of destination & you want to just chill out then this is the place to be. We likely will never go to a large resort again. There are no lineups & resort staff are excellent. If we go to Jamaica again it will definitely be at this resort !!

 Unique concept, great little resort

Overall, a fantastic resort. Only negatives are little nit-picky things.

The entire concept behind the resort was great, with each little 'hut' typically having two rooms back to back. Each hut is separated by a series of paths which are woven into the jungle gardens all over the grounds and makes for a much more rustic feel than your typical resort. The entire resort was very well kept, and the rooms were large and comfortable. The showers were fantastic, but a larger hot water heater would be welcome! Each room has these wooden slated windows which can be closed to keep light out, but they do not keep noise out. This makes sleeping a bit difficult if you turn in early due to the nightly entertainment if you're close to the common area and the jungle noise takes some getting used to. Bring ear plugs! The bathrooms have no doors, and while the layout means you can't see into the bathroom from the rest of the room, it's not exactly the best for maintaining the romance if you're there as a couple.

The beach was beautiful with a large bar and grill run by the resort and easy access to water sports. The beaches at Negril are pretty much the best in Jamaica, and this is no exception. The only down side is that the beach was across the street, about a 2 minute walk. The pool was a bit small and should be skimmed more often, but the water was clean and surrounding area well maintained.

The food was good, with daily themes. Only criticism is that they don't change the scope of offerings too much in that you typically have some salads, rice/potatoes, 2-3 meats to choose, breads and deserts. The taste of some of the dishes was a bit bland, exception of course to anything Jerked. The table wine was quite good, and the coffee was superb. The bar(s) is fairly well stocked with lots of cocktail options.

The front desk staff were great, as were the housekeeping crews. The bartenders were a mixed bag, some were friendly some weren't exactly warm however they were always polite.

There are a good number of excursions available for extra cost. We heard the sunset Catamaran tour was great (and inexpensive) however it was booked fairly early and we never got around to it. We did the more rustic YS Falls/Black River tour which was a full day outing and was worth the trip especially since you get to jump into the falls and our tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable.

Overall, the resort was great and any complaints were minor and didn't detract from the overall experience. We went during an off time, so the resort was much quieter than expected however I suspect that in general this resort has a more low key atmosphere than your typical Caribbean all-inclusive. There were only a handful of children, most guests were 30-50.

The grounds were absolutely beautiful, and the entire concept of the resort was fantastic. The food was good, albeit fairly limited in variety from day to day. The beach was beautiful, even though it was across the street it was quick and easy to get to.

Les points faibles
The lack of a door on the bathroom was less than ideal. While having the room fairly open to the outdoors with the slatted windows was nice during the day, it made sleep difficult with all the noise at night from jungle.

 Very Nice and Quiet

It was very nice - quiet and serene.
While we did enjoy it - we likely would not return to this exact resort. It is a little too small for our liking and there are far too many locals harassing you on the beach DAILY. We actually avoided the beach one day because we were so sick of all the locals bothering us.

 SUPER !

J’hésite toujours à laisser mes commentaires, car il s’agit de MON opinion. Mais bon, si je peux aider quelqu’un…
Mon conjoint et moi avons adorés notre semaine au "Sunset at the Palms".

 BEST VACATION EVER

You will never be able to fine a more relaxing& beautiful resort like Sunset at the Palms.

The tree house set in lush surroundings and the outdoor verandah is set up with with a day bed where you can enjoy reading or listening to the birds.

When we arrived we were greeted warmly and professionally and given wet towels and a cool drink. Thanks to Kadian and Tamika for all the help given to us with smiles.

The peacefulness of this hotel (except for the frogs at night)cannot be beaten.

The breakfast, Lunch and Dinner was always nicely presented and delicious. The staff were all so polite and helpful. My only complaint was that there were no local fruits.

The beach and the ocean was clean and inviting...Two thumbs up for the chair guys at the beach.

If you should need a tour guide who is just outside the resort, JOHN WAYNE is your guy.

The hotel with so much potential!

Be ready to feel like you are in the jungle! Don't need an alarm clock to wake you. The birds, tree frogs and other animals do that for you. Please note rooms do not come with an alarm clock either. Rooms in 400 and up are great and more quiet. Rooms very dark but nicly decorated. Shower nice and big and nicly decorated. Need to requet a refrigerator if you need or want cold drinks on hand. One complementary bottle of water when you arrive. Case of water cost us $17.00. No lemons or limes for drinks which was wierd. Hotels biggest downfall is the food! My 3 year old did not eat anything but breakfast at the hotel. Times food and resteraunts are available are messed up and always late. Besides there being little selection everything was too spicy, cold or repetitive. Jurk chicken and sauce were their main staples. Beach grill needs more verity and better and healthier sides. All that is available is French fries and limited fruit selection. Grill attendant needs more utensils to handle food. Meat, chicken and fish being handled with same spatula. Walking to beach was not bad. Beach needs some TLC although the water was great. Sand needs to be cleaned and respected. Smokers need not to place buts in sand and or use drinking cups as ash trays. Wifi very limited. Staff are great and really try to accommodate but are much better when you tip. Bugs not as bad as I thought, we got a couple of of bites and never used repellant. Little to no entertainment. Pool too small and pool bar smells like pee especially in late afternoon. Again this hotel has a lot of potential and needs a little more attention to details and definetly cook training in international cuisine. Other wise the hotel needs to advertised differently.

 Awesome trip!

This was our first time in Negril and it was amazing. We had stayed at a resort in Runaway Bay before, and although that was a great trip as well, the beach in Negril was way better. Pure white sand covered the whole ocean floor on the resort beach. It's nice as well because you are allowed to walk along the whole beach / shore which gives you the opportunity to check out other resorts. The only very slight downside is that the beach is across the street from the part of the resort that you stay in but isn't a bother because you still only walk 3-4 mins to the beach, I've walked further to the beach on big resorts before.
The actual resort is on the smaller side than some resorts I've been to before, but it still has all the amenities you could possibly want. I actually preferred this resort to bigger ones. The pool area and pool bar are great, you never have to wait for a lounger or a drink no matter what time of day you show up. You also don't have to wait for a lounger at the beach. There are plenty to go around. The bar service at any of the bars we went to was fabulous and quick. Drinks were yummy. My favorite was the "Dirty Banana". The food was great. They had lots of chicken dishes which were really good, the pasta dishes were not as good as I've had before. Always lots of great desserts to choose from. Dining room service was awesome. They couldn't do enough for you. And there were always lots of places to sit. There was a buffet for breakfast/lunch/supper, beach grill (which I didn't try because I think it was mostly fries/burgers, etc), and also a reservation-type restaurant open a few nights per week which was good, but the buffet was just as good or better. Check-in / out service was easy. The rooms are like little treehouses, quaint and cozy but not "fancy". I've definitely stayed in better rooms but I was happy enough with it and they were all surrounded by lush gardens. The garden atmosphere was beautiful. The gardens were very well-maintained and the resort was kept very clean. Should also mention that the rooms don't have doors on the bathrooms, which I didn't love. Call me old-fashioned but I like to have a bathroom door when I'm on the toilet. I had read in some reviews before going that there were a lot of flies. I thought it was pretty minor. Didn't bother us much. We wore insect repellent the first day and not the other days and didn't notice any difference. We went last week of March and the resort was full so it wouldn't be any busier any other time. There is very casual entertainment in the evenings, nothing too crazy. I don't think this would be a good resort for kids or really young adults that want to party hard. It was mostly late 20s and up. Most of the people there were couples. We went on one excursion to Rick's Cafe. We took a shuttle that was $16 each. Beautiful sunsets there, but also beautiful sunsets at the beach on the resort. Overall it was a great resort, great service, friendly people and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Would definitely go back.

First night we were shipped to the RIU because of "plumbing problems" but not a repairman in sight. Just admit you were overbooked. We would understand. Just don't lie. 24 hrs later we finally settled in for a wonderful stay. Rum is watered down. Food was very good. Will definetly go back. Walk to the beach was "no problem MON". IMPORTANT:you do NOT need long pants for the A la Carte restaurant. You can also wear sandals but NOT flip flops.

 Endroit vraiment paisible

 Fantastic Vacation

From the time we got to the hotel to the time we checked out, every staff member was exceptionally friendly and helpful. The resort is beautifully landscaped with its abundance of trees, bushes and tropical vegetation. The tree houses provide a romantic atmosphere and are set up so as to provide privacy. Both the tree houses and other buildings have a lot of deep, dark and rich wood that convey a warm look to the entire resort. The size of the shower in the bathroom is a wonderful feature with two separate shower heads on opposite walls. The manner in which the pool, pool bar, pool deck (which is not cement ) and entertainment areas gel together make it very warm and easy to meet and mingle. Food at this resort can only be described as very tasty. It does not have an over abundance of choices, as is the case with many resorts resulting in many foods not being eaten or having to be recycled, but the choices that are there are all exceptionally good. Since it is a small resort, everything is close and handy. Always an ample supply of beach towels and beach chairs. Beach is very clean with lots of shade if you need it. Water is calm and clean. Beach grill offers a variety of choices with red snapper and jerk chicken being favorites. Entertainment is low key but good. It does not go beyond 10:00 P.M. and as such does not cater to people who want to overdo in their drinking behaviors. This resort is one of the nicest resorts that I have vacationed in and highly recommend it to adults who want a relaxing yet fun filled time.

 Awesome

We stayed at the Sunset At The Palms from Feb 18-25. We could not have had a better experience. This was our first time to Negril and won't be our last. The staff were friendly and went over and above to make us feel welcome. The tree house style cabins are very different but lovely and clean. The beach is great even though there are lots of vendors, they didn't bother us much. The food is awesome, something for everyone. If you want to party to the wee hours of the morning this is not the place but if you want a relaxing vacation at an awesome resort this is it. The resort is across the street from the beach but is not an issue. We have walked a longer distance at resorts that are directly on the beach. We will return. This was the place for what we needed.

 Paradise on earth

We just came back from "sunset at the palms”. It’s a paradise on earth. I highly recommend this hotel. It’s quiet, the beach is amazing, staff at the hotel is very friendly and helpful. We went with our son, 5 years old, he loved it. Food is very good and very clean and fresh. If you want to spend time with your family, far from the hustle and bustle this is the place to go. Entertainment is not like the usual we have seen in other Caribbean islands. In the evening there is a live band that plays reggae music by the pool. No entertainment at the beach during the day. Non motor boats are there for your use with no extra charges (included in the package price). We would definitely go back, loved it!

 Exactly what we ordered

We wanted a quiet, relaxing, carefree vacation and got it. Let me begin with, we will definately return to the Sunset at the Palms. The location, beach, and facilties are great! The staff make it even better!! I can't say enough good things about the staff, who make you feel so welcome and look after you, and insist on serving you; Can't count the number of times I tried to do something (get a beach chair or get a coffee) and have a staff say 'relax I'll get it - you're on vacation'.
Some have commented on road noise - only the few very front units seem to notice that from what we heard. Some commented on the food being boring/the same - we found great quality and selection, and of course after a week there is some repetition but it is good food. Entertainment - know what you're booking. This hotel isn't for everyone; if you like the loud music by the pool and a bullhorn calling you to activities, don't go here. Mid-week a new couple swam to the pool bar and loudly ordered drinks while asking for the music to be turned up. We all smiled and thought "you're at the wrong resort". There was entertainment each evening, music at the pool bar. It was over at 10:00, and this suited us just fine.
The beach was super! Yes it's across the road but no further than the walk at many resorts. And it's big enough that there's lots of room for hotel guests (same with the pool). There is no need for beach or pool chair 'saving' here.
Our disappointment was with our room. Feedback to management was that this room shouldn't be used. In fairness they offered to move us 2 days in, but we were settled by then. Just know that not all the rooms are as picture-perfect as the advertising. Still, it was private, and secure. Just issues with it's age.
Other notes: there is a room safe, no charge; There is an iron and kettle in the room. They do an ice and turn-down service every night.
People commented on bugs. You are in a tropical jungle setting, not a concrete bunker. You will find insects. We had flying ants that appear at night. they didn't bite and weren't irritating. We also had a gecko in our room - once you get used to that and realize it's just eating the bugs, that's fine.
All said, we had a wonderful time and we will return. Most of it was as expected (with high expectations) or above.

Ambience, staff, service, food. The treehouse and balcony concept works really well.

Les points faibles
We got an older room that wasn't the 'postcard' but still was fine.

 Relaxing, intimate resort

If you are looking for crowds of people and lots of entertainment, this is not the place for you. If you want to relax, read a book and not be bothered in any way, pick Sunset at the Palms. My husband and I just got back from the most perfect rejuvenating vacation we have ever been on. What a fantastic week!! Not one thing to complain about except for the little biting bugs that seemed to enjoy munching on me. No one else we talked to was bitten. We are going back next year (with lots of bug spray for me) and we never return to the same resort. The beach is across the road, but I have walked farther at a big resort. Go and enjoy the peace and quiet!

 Go Jamaica

You always wonder how well a resort will measure up to your expectations. If you decide on this one, you won't be disappointed! I don't think it is possible to be pampered by nicer people. The service really is the key.

 Amazing Experience!

This is an amazing hotel for those who want to chill out, relax, meet great people and enjoy the beach and beautiful sunsets. The rooms are beautiful, the beach was gorgeous with lots of entertainment from singers. The food at the resort was delicious - there wasn't t on of selection like at some of the bigger resorts but everything available was amazing. This is not a huge resort with a million things going on anf hundreds of people, it is a small intimate experience. I loved it - it was exactly what we needed. The highlights - fruit smoothies at the beach, the bacon in the morning, Moses (the one man band) and the beautiful lush grounds.
